Copyright issues with music

For the background music we were not allowed to use anything copyrighted which made it hard to find a decent piece of music that would go well because none of us knew any non copyright music. We had some ideas in mind what sort of sound we wanted to go for. Some examples of artists we thought would work were Joe Brooks, Jason Mraz and Snow Patrol. The sound of their music is not too over-powering but light and cheerful or emotional. We wanted the sound of an acoustic guitar to be the main instrument used because we thought it would fit in well with the mood of the opening scene. We also wanted it to be not too loud and over-powering because it would be heard with a voice-over on top and we wanted the voice-over to be prominent and the music to slot in the background quietly.

This background music to the song 'You and I both' by Jason Mraz we thought was perfect because it had a nice steady rhythm to it and wasn't to loud or in your face. It also broke into a different sound with more energy which would have been good But due to copyright issues we couldn't use it so we began looking for non copyright music on the Internet. We used http://www.audio.lgfl.org.uk to look for different music soundtracks. We came across 4 that we thought could work so we tried them individually on top of our film to see which one fit best. We immediately knew when we tried the one we used that it was right and worked really well.
This is the music we chose for the background of our opening:
